Privacy Policy

Talk (“Talk”, “we”, “us”) is a web app that turns YouTube videos into speaking and listening practice, at talk.uk.com. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

We collect only what the app needs to work:

• Google account basics — when you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture to identify your account.
• Your learning data — the words you save, your practice progress, streaks, and time spent. This is stored in your own Google account (Google Sheets / Drive) under your control.
• Technical data — basic device and usage information (such as browser type and interactions) used to keep the app reliable.

We do not collect payment details, and we do not ask for sensitive personal information.

Talk requests access to Google Sign-In and to Google Sheets on your Google account. We use this access solely to:

• Authenticate you and create your Talk profile.
• Create and update a spreadsheet in your own Google account that stores your saved words and practice progress, so your data stays with you and syncs across devices.
• Read that spreadsheet back to show your saved words, streaks, and progress inside the app.

We access the minimum scope required for these features and never use your Google data for advertising.

Talk’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:

• We only use Google user data to provide and improve the features described above.
• We do not transfer or sell Google user data to third parties, except as necessary to provide or improve the app, to comply with applicable law, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets with notice to you.
• We do not use Google user data for serving advertisements.
• We do not allow humans to read your data unless we have your consent for a specific issue, it is necessary for security or to comply with the law, or the data is aggregated and anonymised.

Talk plays videos using YouTube’s embedded player. Your use of embedded YouTube content is also subject to the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. Talk does not receive your YouTube account data.

Your learning data lives in your own Google account. Access tokens are used only to read and write on your behalf while you are signed in, and are transmitted over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. We take reasonable measures to protect data, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers that run the app (such as Google for authentication and storage), when required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

You are in control of your data:

• Revoke Talk’s access at any time from your Google Account permissions.
• Delete or edit the Talk spreadsheet in your Google account to remove your saved words and progress.
• Request deletion of any remaining data by emailing [email protected].

Talk is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above, and where appropriate we will notify you in the app.
