Privacy Policy

Talk (“Talk”, “we”, “us”) is a web app that turns YouTube videos into speaking and listening practice, at talk.uk.com. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

We collect only what the app needs to work:

• Google account basics — when you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture to identify your account.
• Your learning data — the words you save, your practice progress, streaks, and time spent. This is stored in your own Google account (Google Sheets / Drive) under your control.
• Technical data — basic device and usage information (such as browser type and interactions) used to keep the app reliable. See Analytics and session recordings.

We do not collect payment details, and we do not ask for sensitive personal information.

Talk requests access to Google Sign-In and to the Google Drive files Talk creates, such as your Talk spreadsheet. We use this access solely to:

• Authenticate you and create your Talk profile.
• Create and update a spreadsheet in your own Google account that stores your saved words and practice progress, so your data stays with you and syncs across devices.
• Read that spreadsheet back to show your saved words, streaks, and progress inside the app.
• Look for the spreadsheet Talk created in your Google Drive (including its bin), move that spreadsheet to the bin, and revoke Talk’s access to your Google account, only when you ask us to delete your Talk account.

We access the minimum scope required for these features and never use your Google data for advertising. In your Google Drive, Talk can see only the files it created, never your other files.

Talk’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:

• We only use Google user data to provide and improve the features described above.
• We do not transfer or sell Google user data to third parties, except as necessary to provide or improve the app, to comply with applicable law, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets with notice to you.
• We do not use Google user data for serving advertisements.
• We do not allow humans to read your data unless we have your consent for a specific issue, it is necessary for security or to comply with the law, or the data is aggregated and anonymised.

Talk plays videos using YouTube’s embedded player. Your use of embedded YouTube content is also subject to the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. Talk does not receive your YouTube account data.

If you choose Accept on the cookie banner, Talk uses Microsoft Clarity to see how people use the app. Clarity records clicks, taps, scrolling and the pages you visit, and makes heatmaps and replays of visits from them. We use these only to find what is confusing or broken and to improve Talk. By choosing Accept, you agree that Clarity may record your visits as described here.

• Recordings hide what you type, your name and email, and your saved words, videos and progress.
• Clarity sets cookies so it can tell when a visitor comes back. When you are signed in, it also gets your Talk account ID, scrambled (hashed) before it leaves your device, so your visits on different devices count as one person.
• Talk tells Clarity not to use this data for advertising.
• Microsoft handles the data under the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

If you choose Reject, Clarity does not load. You can change your cookie choice at any time.

We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page visits and measure how fast pages load. It sets no cookies and does not record your visit.

Your learning data lives in your own Google account. Access tokens are used only to read and write on your behalf while you are signed in, and are transmitted over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. We take reasonable measures to protect data, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers that run the app (Google for sign-in and storage, Cloudflare for hosting, and Microsoft Clarity for analytics if you accept it), when required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

You are in control of your data:

• Revoke Talk’s access at any time from your Google Account permissions.
• Delete or edit the Talk spreadsheet in your Google account to remove your saved words and progress.
• Request deletion of any remaining data by emailing inadram@gmail.com.

Talk is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above, and where appropriate we will notify you in the app.
